Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories Programme
Duration – 4 years
The undergraduate course in Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories started at National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi by stalwarts of product designs. The success of the course prompted the management to commence it in different centre like Chennai, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Shillong. The programme in Bangalore centre commenced from 2001. Bangalore being the hub of retail, fashion and Precision products, the course was well received and the curriculum has provided 100% placements to all its students.

Currently Fashion and Lifestyle Accessory Department at Bangalore encompasses emerging global business practices with far reaching consequences for the Indian Fashion Industry. It has always kept pace with the industry by relooking at the curriculum from time to time and the course has been restructured accordingly. The department has been closely associated with the industry and graduation project providing the opportunity to work in the industry under the umbrella of the Institute.
Course Contents:

First year for the undergraduate design students is a common Foundation Programme. All the students are inducted in the field of design with the basic and important leanings with the following subjects: Elements of Design, Geometry, Visualization and Representation techniques, Overview of Fashion, Material Studies, Computer Application, Field Study and Integrated Term Projects.

Second year, the students are initiated towards the specialisation focussed study with History of Design, material studies, communication and documentation based subjects and Design Methodology.
The subjects taught in the second year are:  Form Studies / Form and Space, History of Design, Photography, Computer Application, Technical Studies - Materials and process-1, Fabrication and Machining Skills, Design Methodology, DM -  Prototyping & Documentation Professional Communication & Documentation Techniques, Fashion Studies I - History of Fashion, Technical Studies - – 2,    Computer Application (Auto CAD), Design Project (SDP), SDP .

Third year is more focussed towards providing the exposure to various product based issues such as graphics, ergonomics, production process, research papers and so on. They also do two design projects in the area of hardware detailing and packaging design which introduces them towards the ancillary product based subjects.
The subjects taught in the third year are: Product Graphics, Human Factors and Ergonomics, Fashion Studies - II Trends and Forecast, Technical Studies III - Technical Science, Computer Application, Cluster initiative, Cluster Documentation, Hardware Design & Product detailing, HDP Prototyping, Independent Studies, Technical Studies  - Production process & planning, Packaging Design, Packaging Design – Prototyping, Range Design -  Prototyping, Computers VI - 3DS MAX / MAYA, Intellectual Property Rights. After completion of third year and before the beginning of the fourth year, which will also be the last year in the Institute, the students are to go through an intense internship in which they are provided a basic induction to the industry by working with the industry for 8 weeks. After the Internship the students are supposed to have a presentation about the workings and experience within the industry.

The subjects taught in the fourth year are:, Internship Presentation (Combined with Internship), Design Management (Common Elective), DP VI - Retail Product & Environment, DP VI - Prototyping & Documenting, Design Project VII, Design Project VII – Prototyping After completion of the 7th semester, the students are supposed to work with the industry for 22 weeks. During this period under the guidance of the faculty they work on the sponsored projects of the industry in the capacity of a design professional. After the completion of the programme, on the basis of the performance they are graduated to work as a professional in the industry.
