Skill up gradation
Nearly 70 members from various SHGS have been able to upgrade from cotton to silk fabric embroidery in village kaddirampura Thanda, Sitaram Thanda and Mariammanahalli Thanda. Silk fabric brings higher value realization in the market.
SHG members from Kaddirampura Thanda village were the first groups to undergo silk embroidery training in June 07. They also produced an initial batch silk stoles in July 07 and trained other groups in Sitaram Thanda in a 'skill and design transfer workshop' in September'07.
Design Innovations
In designing new products, we have aimed at keeping the balance between international appeal and the indigenous vitality of each craft. Thus, the French technique of 'biscorbu; or the 3 dimensional form with embroidered fabric has been adapted to the bold, robust stitches of lambani embroidery. It was a fascinating discovery for the artisans and for us.
