1      Is the NIFT degree recognized worldwide?
       
Yes. NIFT has been granted statutory status under the act of Parliament of India in 2006, empowering the Institute to award degrees and other academic distinctions

2     How many times can I take the NIFT entrance examination?
       
You can take the entrance examination for any number of times but in case of design you can take till you attain the upper age limit.

3     What is the upper age limit for applying?
       
The upper age limit for applying in bachelor programmes is restricted to 23 years however for Post graduate programmes there is no age limit.

4     What is the financial assistance available for study at NIFT?

NIFT gives financial assistance to students through its subsidy program. The subsidy details are as under

5      How can we come to know about merit list?

The merit list is displayed on the NIFT website once the results of selected candidates are declared.

6      What is the procedure for counseling?

After the selection, the students are called as per the merit list for counseling. During the counseling the selected students get a chance to select the course and the center of study.

7      Can we submit the application form without submitting the +2 exam mark sheet?

The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all the eligibility criteria for admission to the examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination for which they are admitted by NIFT viz. Written Test, Situation Test, Group Discussion and Interview (as the case may be) will be purely provisional, subject to their satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions. If on verification at any time before or after the Written Test, Situation Test, Group Discussion and Interview (as the case may be), It is fond that candidate does not fulfill any eligibility criteria, his / her candidature for the examination shall stand cancelled without any notice or further reference.

11     What all different types of programs NIFT offer?

NIFT offers B.Des. (Fashion Design), B.Des. (Leather Design) B.Des. (Accessory Design), B.Des. (Textile Design), B.Des. (Knitwear Design), B.Des. (Fashion Communication) in the design discipline at undergraduate level and  M.Des. (Master of Design) at master level.

15     What are the eligibility criteria for various programs of NIFT?
           

Eligibility for Bachelor Programmes - Design

B.Des. (Fashion Design / Leather Design / Accessory Design / Textile Design / Knitwear Design / Fashion Communication)

  • The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi. OR

  • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level. OR

  • Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in Foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system. OR

  • A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects. OR

  • 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

Eligibility for Bachelor Programme - Technology
B.FTech. (Apparel Production)

  • The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry  and Maths. OR

  • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Maths. OR

  • Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Maths. OR                  

  • A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Maths. OR

  • 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education (Engineering background).

    (Candidate must be pass in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics)

    Please note that the upper age limit for applying in bachelor programmes is  restricted to 23 years as on 1st November, 2008.

Eligibility for Master Programme - Design
M.Des. (Master of Design)

  • Graduation degree from a recognized University in any discipline*   OR

  • Bachelor in Applied Arts (Fashion Design / Visual Communication / Graphic Design / Industrial Design / Interior Design / Multimedia Design / Product Design / Textiles & Accessories. OR

  • B.A. (Fine Arts) or B.Sc. (Textiles & Clothing) OR                  

  • B.Arch. OR

  • Design Diploma / Degree  from NIFT / NID only        

Candidates having relevant industry experience in areas of Fashion / Textile / Communication Design would be preferred.

*If a candidate possessing Graduation Degree in any discipline applies for the course, then he / she has to compulsory undergo 2 months (i.e. 8 weeks) training programme to develop the desired skills before taking on the course itself.    

Eligibility for Master Programme - Management

M.F.M. (Master of Fashion Management)

A three years Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities or Diploma in Accessory / Fashion Design / FIT from NIFT only.
For foreign Bachelor’s Degree, not recognized by the Association of Indian Universities, proper certification by a National Body constituted in the country concerned for granting equivalence will have to be produced.

Eligibility for Master Programme - Technology
M.FTech. (Master of Fashion Technology)

B.E. / B.Tech. (Textiles / Apparel / Mechanical / Industrial / Production / Electronics / Computer / Information Technology)

16     Is there any minimum percentage required in to apply for NIFT entrance exam?
           
No. Only the pass grade is required.

17     Does NIFT offer any other courses other than the full time program?

NIFT has developed a range of Continuing Education Programmes, which have been developed in consultation with reputed academicians and industry practitioners. These programmes reflect the requirements and concerns of the industry and have been carefully planned to spur professional growth, and are relevant to individuals at different stages of their careers.

The CE Certificate Programmes are aimed at complementing the practical knowledge of the industry professionals with formal technical education in their respective areas of work. The flexible schedule enables the participants to pursue the programme without interrupting their professional activities. With focus on interactive learning, the programmes provide a congenial environment that integrates theory with practice. The participants receive a NIFT certificate on successful completion of the programme.

18     How are students evaluated in the regular programs?

Continuous evaluation and assessment is undertaken throughout the semester by way of assignments, projects, internships and presentations. Juries comprising academicians and industry professionals assess students' work and capabilities. The aim is to closely monitor students' evolution as competent professionals and provide critical feedback to students on their performance and development.

19     What are the facilities provided on campus in terms of services to the students?
Students are provided with library (Resource center), hostel facility, canteen, sports zone, medical doctor, Internet access, transportation facility. Check out the specific center website for more details.

The placement in NIFT is centralized for all centers and disciplines.

22     Can the student of any center intern in any place in India/abroad?

Yes. The student can take up internship anywhere with the consent of department.

23     Is there a committee for anti-ragging act at the centers?

Yes each centre has a committee to take care of this. The committee comprises of faculty members and the administrative staff.

24     How does the organization function?

The Institution is headed by the Director General, Who sits at the NIFT HQ in New Delhi. Each Centre is headed by a Director. The academic departments have Chairpersons as academic heads of the respective departments. Each centre the department is headed by the Centre coordinators. Yes there are guidelines and Norms for women’s grievance cell. The same may be gathered from Page numbers 83, 84, 85 of the establishment manual. The establishment manual is available on www.nift.ac.in

28     What does the standing Internal Advisory Committee does and how do they function.

The standing internal advisory committee has been constituted by DG –NIFT for transparent, objective and participative decision making. The details of the various units are Cleary spelt out in the establishment manual from page number 75 to 82

29     Are there recruitment rules for the teaching faculty?

Yes, the recruitment rules are clearly defined in the establishment manual. The complete recruitment rules with the competency code and eligibility criteria is mentioned in the establishment manual from page numbers 95 to 133

30     What is the selection Process of various administrative and academic posts in NIFT?

31     What is the conduct rules followed in NIFT?
