Textile and Garment are amongst the identified priority sectors for the Government of Gujarat. In the assessment of the man power requirement studies conducted by the Government of Gujarat through various consulting organizations, it was found that there is a huge requirement of trained personnel at operators and supervisory level in the above sectors. They want to train these personnel through a network of Polytechniques and ITIs across the state.  To ensure that the quality of training given is in accordance to the industries requirement, they have come out with Anchor Institute concept in which there will be one or two national level reputed Institutes within the state of Gujarat to be given the responsibility for a particular sector to develop employable manpower. NIFT Gandhinagar has been appointed as Anchor Institute in the field of Garment Engineering (Textile and Garment sector) to help the Polytechnics and ITIs in the state to upgrade themselves to cater to need of the Industries.  Role & Functions of the Anchor Institute Anchor Institute will provide technical support to the Technical Educational Institutions in the sector to provide employable good quality manpower for shop floor, supervisory and managerial level. To collect information on all the technical courses being offered in the State considering need to upgrade and make it industry responsive. To suggest required changes in the curriculum in the courses at Diploma & Certificate levels being offered by it is & Polytechnics in the State To suggest introducing new courses as per emerging needs of industries To improve deliverance standards of trainers at Polytechnics & ITI across the state. To organize refresher training programmes for faculty development. To benchmark the courses offered by the ITIs/Polytechnics and Engineering Collages with international/national standards. To prepare teaching, learning and reference material for faculty training programmes To select and coordinate with nodal Institute at Diploma and ITI level and to oversee their performance. To facilitate increased industry interaction for stakeholders & Trainers through visits to Apparel Centers, Trade Fairs in India & abroad. To continuously evolve new training programmes based on the need of the industries in the state and improvements / changes / modifications /up-gradation in the courses based on the industry feedback. To arrange faculty/speakers from the institutes, industries and professionals for the training programmes. To encourage the faculties for undertaking R&D and consultancy assignments. To continuously identify new areas of growth in the sector.
