Community Based Organizations formed under the Project

Surendranagar Vankar Samaj( SUVAS)

SUVAS acronym of Surendranagar Vankar Samaj which also means Fragrance in Gujarati is a district level federation of artisans promoted under this project with active collaboration of CARE India and SAATH charitable Trust. District level federation having a membership base of around 1300 artisans has a “Dharavahi Sabya” or Governing Body comprising 16 members (12 male and 4 Females) with representations from all  five different crafts being promoted under the project.

Members pay an annual membership fee of Rupees Fifty one and meet on regular basis to share and discuss common interest and issues. They have also elected 16 member governing council and the following three office bearers to efficiently manage the federation.

Tangaliya Weavers Association:

Tangaliya

To revive Tangaliya craft this association with a membership base of  226 artisans spread over 5 villages has been formed.

Tangaliya being indigenous and unique craft of this region efforts to promote and protect the craft are being done. Tangaliya is to be registered under the G. I, to protect and add value to this craft. In the initial round people from GI registry, Chennai were invited to the cluster, they visited the cluster and interacted with Tangaliya artisans. There after Application has been filed under three different clauses at the Chennai registry and is under process.

Self Help Groups:
162 SHGs covering around 1984 artisans practicing five different craft have been formed. All the SHGs have a bank account and first grading of 135 have been done.
