Department of Tribal Development, Government of Gujarat had established Development Support Agency of Gujarat (DSAG) for promoting public and private partnership and high-end technical / skill development projects for the development of tribals and tribal area (Chief Ministers’ Van Bandhu Kalyan Yojana and Kushal Gujarat Abhiyan).  Department of Tribal Development proposed to establish high-end Vocational Training Centre (VTC) in Apparel Sector in the tribal area of Gujarat. NIFT Gandhinagar was offered the task to establish the Vocational Training Centre (VTC) and run it for five years.  NIFT Gandhinagar in consultation with Tribal Development Department, Government of Gujarat selected Dharampur, Valsad District to establish Vocational Training Centre (VTC).

The training center will be equipped with complete facility of Apparel manufacturing right from fabric inspection, cutting, sewing, checking, finishing and packing. In this training center, apart from the practical training, the center will be equipped to take out a commercial production and all the trainees will do minimum one-month commercial production.

The main objective of this Vocational Training Center is, the Tribal folk from the surrounding area can be imparted a skill which opens up the door of opportunities in the near by surrounding garment industry. The Apparel & Textile trade has potential to train man and woman work force and it does not involve any kind of physical exertion, pollution or tough working conditions.

Major Activities of the project

1. Development of Course Ware
2. Preparation of lay out plan for the Vocational Training Centre Campus
3. Construction of Vocational Training Centre Campus (to be done by Tribal Development Department, Government of Gujarat)
4. Selection and Procurement of equipments and machinery
5. Training of Training Supervisors
6. Recruitment of Officers/staff
7. Establishment and functioning of proper administrative procedures/financial system till the end of 5th year
