The Department of Fashion Technology at Hyderabad NIFT offers the degree - Bachelor of Fashion Technology (Apparel Production). The four year bachelor program is designed to train students in the core apparel manufacturing technology. With emphasis on best practices in Apparel Manufacturing coupled with understanding and application of Information Technology, the programme prepares professionals who are capable to significantly contribute to the fashion technology domain of the industry.

The programme imparts practical knowledge pertaining to apparel manufacturing technolgoy. The students learn about equipment and processes throguh hands-on-training in laboratory, class room sessions and industry exposure. The information technology inputs helps students to appreciate, evaluate and apply information and communication technology in apparel manufacturing.

The Department of Fashion Technology at Hyderabad has state-of-the-art construction lab, Pattern Making lab, Computer labs and Air-conditioned class rooms to facilitate the rigorous learning.

Content

Year 1
The first year is geared to make students aware of theories, concepts and processes, build a foundation that synergises design, management and technology for fashion industry.

Year 2
Basic skills are imparted to understand fabric properties, manufacturing process and machinery, statistical tools, software related to apparel industry, pattern making and construction of garments. At the end of the fourth semester students go to the textile industry for two weeks internship.

Year 3
The third year preoares students to comprehensively understand processing techniques, develop skills in production planning and control, management of trade, skills to construct specialized garments, supply chain and IT applications. To comprehend the theoritical inputs given in the classrooms, students undertake eight weeks internship in apparel manufactguring unit after the sixth semester.

Year 4
The final year equips students to handle decision making oriented subjects with an opportunity to choose from a wide range of elective inputs including advanced java, e-commerce, project management, erognomics etc., The departmental and common elective subjects provide an opportunity to students to further explore their areas of interest and help them appreciate interdisciplinary challenges. The programme culminates with students submitting an in-depth research project undertaken in various areas.

The programme equips sutdents to pursue wide range of careers in Production, Quality Assurance, Garment Technology, Industrial Engineering, Product Development, Sourcing, Project Analysis, System Analysis, Software Development, Intranet Administration, Internet Programming, Database Application and Network Management.
