Besides conducting regular education programmes for young
men and women seeking a professional career in the Fashion and Garment
industry, NIFT also undertakes Design Development and Professional
Consultancy Projects sponsored by the Public and Private sectors.
Involvement of final-year students as team-members of relevant projects
provides them an invaluable opportunity of working on real-life situations,
as also in some cases bring them in contact with the prospective employers
and helps their placement. Documentation of each Project becomes a major
resource of academic programmes as well as guidelines for such projects in
future.
NIFT being a national institution has undertaken major
initiatives in Cluster Development of Handicraft & Handloom sectors in rural
areas towards design development, technological upgradation and skill
development in order to assist the craftsmen in economic sustainability.
