M.F.M.(Master of Fashion Management)

The objective of the two-year "Master of Fashion Management (MFM)" Programme (erstwhile AMM) started in 1987 is to develop managerial and leadership skills for building competitiveness of the fashion industry. The objective is also to equip the young talents in the areas of marketing, merchandising, retailing, supply chain management, and garment exports in order to meet the specific skill needs of the industry.

The MFM curriculum is designed in such a way that makes it unique, dynamic and focused, thereby maintaining it's branding and positioning in the country and abroad for more than 2 decades. The dynamic nature of our curriculum that is reviewed every three years ensures its relevance both for the industry and academia. Along with developing of the core competencies through different subject verticals, the programme also ensures that students are well equipped with soft skills and an ethical foundation.

Duration
2 Years: 4 Semesters
(With a blend of classroom and industry training. The students are sent on an outbound programme between the first and second semester, then a summer internship of 8 weeks between 2nd and 3rd semester and 16 week graduation project in the entire 4th semester. The students are also exposed to the rural and artisan sectors in every semester through the "Cluster Development Initiative" programme. The students spend considerable amount of time with the artisans and their products and develop new marketing dimensions for them.)

Year 1
The preliminary semester forms a platform to bring students from diverse backgrounds at parity. The semester creates a foundation about the world of fashion and fashion business through subjects like Fashion Orientation, Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Marketing and Fabric Knowledge. Besides, the semester also lays a foundation for management understanding, business analytics and corporate management through subjects like Managerial Economics, Organisational Behaviour, Corporate Social Responsibility, Professional Practices, Business Statistics and Marketing Research.

The 2nd Semester continues with further understanding about fashion business and develops core competencies in key areas like retail and mall management, pattern appreciation and garment manufacturing, apparel quality management, fashion export merchandising and visual merchandising. In order to strengthen the managerial and leadership skills required for fashion business management, the students learn subjects like IT for Management, Accounting & Costing, and Consumer and Industrial Buying Behaviour. During the 2nd semester the students also develop their appetite for micro specializations through different electives to further hone their domain specific and managerial competencies through subjects like Apparel Quality Management, Fashion Forecasting & Product Development, Store Operations, Applied Research – I, Sales & Distribution Management and Applied OB.

Between the 1st and 2nd semester the students go on an out-bound programme for 3 days where they are exposed to peripheral competencies like lateral thinking, team building, motivation and leadership through expert interactive sessions and management games. During the summer break between the 2nd and 3rd Semester the students undertake 8 weeks of industry internship to gain hands on industry experience.

Year 2
The second year is about building and integrating managerial functions with fashion business through a host of key management subject areas like Financial Management, Operations Research, Strategic Management, Intellectual Property Rights, Entrepreneurship Management, Fashion Brand Management and Special Product Groups. The students further develop analytical and critical thinking skills and develop applied knowledge through blending of hardcore management subjects along with domain specific functions. The third semester also has got a host of Electives like Global Marketing, Service Marketing, HRM, Fashion Marketing Communication, and Luxury Management; from which the students choose subjects to fine-tune their area of specialization and management skills. In addition, the students also undergo research and training in the self-organized handloom and handicraft clusters.

In the subsequent semester, i.e. the 4th and final semester, the students are required to test and apply their knowledge and skills learned in the previous semesters in the industry through a project called "Graduation Research Project" for 16 weeks in the industry.

Careers
Students graduating from this programme can work in managerial positions in different functional and operational areas of fashion industry. They can make a sustained career in the areas of fashion retail management, fashion buying, merchandising, visual merchandising, store operations, store planning, fashion marketing, band management, consumer research, fashion forecasting, export merchandising, export operations, buying and vendor management, and also can do consulting. There is also a possibility of students taking up entrepreneurship as an alternative career
