Randhir Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories Product Design Department at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Srinagar. He specializes in lifestyle accessories, product design, material exploration, product development, and design education. He has over 13 years of professional experience in design, along with experience in handicrafts, export manufacturing, and academia. He holds a Bachelor of Design in Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories from NIFT and a Master’s degree in Anthropology from IGNOU. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Interior Design at Manipal University Jaipur. His research interests focus on sustainable design, biophilic design, material exploration, human-centered design, natural forms, and the integration of cultural and environmental perspectives into product development. He teaches design through contextual research, design thinking, form studies, material experimentation, and prototyping. He teaches Material Exploration, Packaging Design, Hardware Product Detailing, and Prototyping.
He actively mentors students through studio-based learning, field studies, design projects, and industry-oriented activities. His professional interests include sustainable product development, traditional crafts, natural forms, and innovative material applications. He promotes experiential, research-driven, and interdisciplinary approaches to design education and encourages students to connect creative practice with research, culture, materials, and industry.
