Dr. Kumari Nayan Tara Singh is an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bhopal, where she teaches undergraduate courses like Pattern Making, Draping, Fashion Basics, Fashion society and culture, Material Studies, Fashion and Trend forecasting and Craft Based Product Development. An academician, researcher, and design professional, she specializes in sustainable fashion, textile innovation, craft-based practices, and environmentally responsible design. She joined the Institute in 2022.Past: She previously served as Student Development Activity Coordinator from 2024 to 2025. Past:
She holds a PhD in Design, a Master's degree in Psychology, and a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design from NIFT Gandhinagar. With over a decade of experience spanning academia and the fashion industry, she has mentored student research and craft documentation projects, and contributed to government- and institution-led initiatives in crafts, sustainability, and cultural heritage. Her research has been published in national and international journals and conference proceedings which focuses on artisan empowerment, sustainable textiles, and design education for social impact. She has engaged extensively with living craft traditions including Kashmir Pashmina, Namda carpets, and Pithora Painting etc., bridging scholarly inquiry with field practice and community outreach.
