Dr. Nishant Sharma is an academician, researcher, and design professional with over 25 years of combined industry and academic experience. He is  committed to advancing fashion education through innovation, research, and meaningful industry engagement.
Currently serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Knitwear Design at NIFT Bengaluru, he brings a valuable mix of nearly a decade of industry experience and almost two decades in academics. 
An alumnus of the Knitwear Design Technology (KDT) programme at NIFT Mumbai, he has remained deeply engaged with the evolving landscape of fashion, design, knitwear and education throughout his professional journey. His doctoral research at NIFT explored the industrial relevance of fashion education, reflecting his long-standing interest in aligning design pedagogy with the dynamic needs of the industry, with a focus on the knitwear sector. 
His teaching, research, and scholarly contributions span fashion knitwear design & technology, sportswear, fashion and art studies, , visual merchandising, print design, design research and curriculum development. He also served various academic coordination roles, including that of Campus Academic Coordinator at NIFT Kannur, from 2022 to 2024.
