"Dr. Smriti Yadav is a distinguished academic and researcher in the field of Textiles and Clothing, with over 16 years of professional experience at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). She currently serves as Campus Academic Coordinator, NIFT Varanasi, with the additional charge of Joint Director. She has also served as Course Coordinator, Fashion Design; Cluster Initiative Coordinator; and Campus Academic Coordinator, NIFT Raebareli. Her professional expertise encompasses fashion education, textile and craft-based research, sustainable design, and academic administration.
Her research focuses on heritage craft preservation, sustainable fashion, textile processing, textile comfort properties, and functional clothing design. Her work explores the contemporary application and preservation of crafts including Chikankari, Banaras brocades, Lucknow’s Daraz and Chatta Patti embroidery, Agra’s Phool Patti appliqué, and Sitapur Durries. She has also contributed to research on natural dyes, resource-efficient textile processing, fabric comfort, and specialized clothing for diverse occupational and environmental requirements.
Beyond teaching and research, Dr. Yadav actively contributes to academic administration, institutional development, industry–academia engagement, and outreach initiatives. Her professional interests include mentoring students, strengthening craft–industry linkages, promoting sustainable practices, and facilitating collaborative academic initiatives. Through her leadership and engagement with diverse stakeholders, she continues to contribute to the development of fashion education and the integration of traditional Indian crafts with contemporary design practices."
