Mumbai CampusProf. Dr. Ajit Kumar Khare is Professor in the Department of Fashion Technology and currently serves as Director (In-charge), NIFT Mumbai. He holds a doctorate in Statistics and brings over three decades of academic experience, having worked in academia since 1995 and as a Professor since 2008. His expertise includes garment technology, apparel production management, apparel quality management, apparel supply chain management, and business process reengineering.
Dr. Khare’s research interests include green manufacturing and sustainable manufacturing in the apparel sector. He has guided more than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate projects, and six Ph.D. scholars have been awarded doctorates under his guidance. He has presented his work at national and international forums and has led several institutional initiatives, including the NIFT Foundation for Design Innovation (NFDI), capacity-building projects for ETIDI, and the establishment of research, development, and training centres in Gandhinagar and Bellary.
Dr. Khare actively contributes to academic leadership, institutional development, and student mentoring. He previously served as Campus Director for five NIFT centres—Raebareli, Jodhpur, Srinagar, Bhopal, and Gandhinagar—where he strengthened campus operations, developed partnerships, and supported the establishment of new centres. His continuing professional engagement includes international exposure through a fellowship at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, and specialised training at Juki Corporation, Japan.
