Mr. Akhilendra Pratap Sonkar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Communication and currently serves as the Link-Campus Academic Coordinator (Link-CAC). He is pursuing his Ph.D., exploring the strategic role of visual merchandising in fashion trend communication and brand image. With over 22 years of professional experience, including more than 9 years in the apparel industry and 13 years in academia, he brings expertise in design education, visual communication, visual merchandising, fashion trend forecasting, styling, design fundamentals, design thinking, and creative pedagogy. Over the years, he has held several academic and administrative responsibilities, including Centre Coordinator for the Foundation Programme, Centre Coordinator for the Department of Fashion Communication, and Project In-charge at the campus level, reflecting his sustained contribution to academic leadership and institutional development. His academic interests encompass visual merchandising, fashion branding, retail communication, fashion trends, artisan empowerment, craft revival, and sustainable design practices. He has published papers in reputed national and international journals and conference proceedings, with scholarly contributions spanning Indian crafts, visual culture, visual merchandising, fashion branding, and the documentation and revitalization of traditional craft practices. He has contributed to several government and institutional initiatives, including the Design Resource Centre for Weavers Service Centres, the Rebranding and Restructuring of Indian Institutes of Handloom Technology (IIHTs), Khadi artisan capacity-building programmes, curriculum development projects, Khadi fashion initiatives, Khadi Executive Workshops, and the UPITS GI Fashion Show. Alongside his teaching responsibilities, he actively mentors students, develops academic curricula, and collaborates with government agencies, industry partners, and artisan communities to strengthen design education, foster innovation, and promote the preservation and contemporary relevance of India's traditional crafts.
