Dr. Akanksha Nautiyal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Textile Design at NIFT Mumbai. She is a textile academic and researcher with over seven years of teaching and research experience, working at the intersection of design, science, and sustainability. Her expertise spans textile processing, innovative textiles, world textiles, and sustainable textile systems, integrating scientific research with design innovation. She earned her Ph.D. in Textile Chemistry from the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai, in 2019, and holds postgraduate and undergraduate degrees in Fabric and Apparel Science from the University of Delhi.
Her research interests include biomaterials, sustainable textiles, innovative textile technologies, and craft studies. She has received international training in smart textiles, innovation, and sustainable fashion through programmes at the Swiss College of Fashion, Switzerland, and NIFT Mumbai. Dr. Nautiyal holds an Indian patent for an in-situ metal-oxide nanoparticle synthesis technique on cotton fabric and has published in reputed journals and books, including an Elsevier publication. She qualified the UGC-NET with Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in 2012.
Dr. Nautiyal served as Student Development Activity Coordinator at NIFT Mumbai (2021–2023). Outside academia, she enjoys travelling and reading, drawing inspiration from diverse cultures that enrich her teaching and research.
