Dr. Gargee Bhattacharjee is an assistant professor in the Textile Design Department at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. With a background in visual arts and textile design, she has more than fifteen years of experience working in craft, design, and academia. Her ethnographic research on the tribal textiles of Assam earned her fellowships from the Ministry of Culture and Sahapedia-UNESCO. She has expertise in working with craft communities, tribal communities, women's groups and team building for livelihood generation. She studied Visual Arts from Assam University, Silchar and Textile Design from Indian Institute of Crafts and Design, Jaipur. Her doctoral research in Visual Arts from Assam University is based on art, ecology, and sustainability. Her research areas broadly cover environmental aesthetics, culture and ecology, visual culture, and material culture studies. Her interests lie in hand-spinning, weaving, non-loom yarn crafts and watercolour.
