Dr. Goutam Bar is an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bhubaneswar, where he has served since 2012. He specializes in textile science, textile chemical processing, fabric quality assurance, woven structures, CAD for Jacquard, natural fibres, and sustainable textiles. He holds a B. Tech in Textile Technology and an MBA in Supply Chain Management, and completed his Ph.D. in Design from Banasthali University. Before joining NIFT, he gained 12 years of professional experience in textile and home-furnishing export organizations.

Dr. Bar’s research focuses on sustainable and indigenous textile materials, natural fibres, natural dyeing, textile finishing, and traditional handloom practices. His significant research contributions include the extraction and characterization of Bauhinia vahlii fibre, its pretreatment and dyeability, and development of cotton–Bauhinia vahlii blended yarns. He has published in reputed journals and presented research at international conferences in the UK, USA, Portugal, Türkiye, and India. He also serves as a reviewer for reputed international journals.

Dr. Bar actively contributes to student mentoring, academic administration, industry interaction, and experiential learning. He currently serves as Campus Academic Coordinator and organizes industry visits, workshops, expert lectures, and student development activities. He has also contributed to design and craft projects involving traditional woven techniques and textile CAD. His professional interests include sustainable textiles, indigenous fibres, natural colouration, handloom traditions, textile innovation, and connecting research with industry and design education.
