Dr. Lipsa Mohapatra is an academician and researcher in fashion management, textile technology, craft studies, indigenous knowledge systems, innovation and sustainable fashion systems. She is an engineer in Textile Technology (BTech, Hons) and Masters in fashion Management (NIFT, Bengaluru). She is currently serving as Assistant Professor at NIFT Bhubaneswar and teaches in undergraduate and postgraduate courses and leads research in crafts and artisan livelihood studies. She brings over a decade of experience spanning fashion retail and craft sector engagement, design intervention, teaching, research and academic administration.

She joined the institute in 2012 and has served at various Academic and Administrative positions since then. She served as the Student Development and Activity Coordinator (SDAC) from 2012-14, Cluster Initiative Coordinator (CIC) from 2014-18, Resource Centre-In-charge from 2017-2019,  SDAC from 2018-2020,   Link-CC-FMS & IDL from 2018-21, Campus Coordinator (CC) of Department of Fashion Management Studies from 2021-24 and currently serving as Purchase Officer since 2026.

She recieved her PhD from XIMB University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.
She has presented more than twenty research papers in both National and International conferences. She has more than twenty research publications in indexed journals and as book chapters and more than thirty popular articles in leading magazines such as Fibre2Fashion among others. She has edited a book on Fashion, Retail and Management. Currently, she is working on her book titled: “Textile Fundamentals”.

She is an Honorary Member of the Editorial Advisory Board,  Bloomsbury Fashion Central, UK, since 2022; Life member of International Association of Engineers: Hong Kong, HK and Asian Polymer Association: New Delhi, IN. Beyond teaching and research, Dr. Mohapatra works closely with Odisha's craft sector as an expert with the State Handloom and Handicrafts Department, ORMAS, and Khadi organizations, and has trained retail staff across state handloom and handicraft agencies. She also writes poetry and short stories in English, Hindi, and Odia, published in Muse India, Setu, Odisha Review, Utkala Prasanga and other reputed magazines and online portals.
