Dr. Muhammed Ashraf T. is an assistant professor in the Department of Fashion Communication at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kannur, Kerala. He specializes in fashion communication, visual culture, media studies, fashion journalism, advertising, and public relations. With academic and industry experience in communication and media, he teaches undergraduate courses in writing for media, visual communication, journalism, and design research. He received his PhD in Communication from the University of Hyderabad in 2023, and his interdisciplinary academic background also includes a Master’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
His research focuses on print culture, media history, digital media, fashion and identity, and emerging forms of fashion communication. His doctoral research examined Urdu print culture and the negotiation of modernity in the princely state of Hyderabad. He has presented research at national and international conferences, including studies on hip-hop, fashion, and performativity in Kerala, and he continues to explore digital storytelling, platform cultures, and influencer practices in contemporary fashion media.
Dr. Ashraf is actively involved in curriculum development, student mentoring, academic review activities, and outreach initiatives related to design and communication education. He is also interested in photography, visual documentation, and community-oriented media practices.
