Dr. T. Murugan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Fashion Technology, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Chennai. He has been associated with NIFT Chennai since 14 March 2008 and has extensive academic and industry experience in fashion technology, apparel manufacturing and textile engineering.

His research interests include natural fiber composites, sustainable textile materials, apparel technology, garment fit and construction, and textile-based functional materials. His publications include research on banana fiber composites, bagasse fiber composites, Sansevieria fiber /epoxy composites, sustainable fashion materials and garment technology.

Dr. Murugan has contributed to several training programs, industry workshops, student industry visits and skill-development initiatives. He has also been involved in projects related to Pattern Making and Garment Construction training for tribal communities and TN Skills. He has served in industry and alumni-related responsibilities at NIFT Chennai.

His academic and professional work bridges textile engineering, apparel technology and fashion education, with particular emphasis on translating industrial practices and technological developments into effective teaching, training and research.
