Dr. Nagma Sahi Ansari, PhD, is a design researcher and academic working at the intersection of Human–Computer Interaction (HCI), human-centred design, immersive technologies, and AI-enabled creative practices. Her research examines how people interact with, make meaning through, and co-create with emerging technologies, with particular interests in human–AI interaction, creativity, identity, co-presence, and socially situated design.
Currently an Assistant Professor and Centre Coordinator for the Master of Design programme at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Mumbai, she leads interdisciplinary teaching and research integrating qualitative and mixed-method design research, participatory approaches, prototyping, and AI technologies. Her doctoral practice-based research explored identity and co-presence in immersive media, resulting in an interactive VR artefact. Her current research extends this work toward AI-mediated creativity, AI literacy, responsible AI-enabled creative practice, and meaningful human–technology relationships.
Her publications and research projects engage with AI and creative labour, immersive interaction, design research methodology, and design for social impact. She is particularly interested in developing human-centred frameworks for designing and evaluating AI systems in creative, educational, and collaborative contexts. Her broader research agenda brings together HCI, design research, AI, immersive media, and social impact to investigate how emerging technologies can better respond to human values, experiences, and contextual needs.
