Dr. A. O. Abdul Salam Sait is an academic and textile and fashion technology professional with extensive experience in teaching, management, textile technology and apparel manufacturing. He serves as an Associate Professor at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Chennai, where he contributes to fashion and textile education through teaching, academic guidance and professional engagement. He has been associated with NIFT as a faculty since 1996. Dr. Sait possesses a strong academic foundation in Textile Technology and Fashion-related interdisciplinary studies. He holds a Ph.D. in Textile Technology–Economics (Interdisciplinary) from VISTAS, Chennai, with his doctoral research focusing on “Consumer Purchase Preference Toward Fashion Garments – A Study”. He also holds an M.Tech. in Textile Technology and a B.Tech. in Textile Technology from Anna University, Chennai. In addition, he possesses a Post Diploma in Knitting & Garment Manufacturing Technology and a Diploma in Textile Technology from the Institute of Textile Technology, Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai. His professional career also includes seven years of Industrial working experience in the textile and apparel manufacturing companies. He gains industrial exposure through his association with organisations including Coromandel Garments Ltd., Milano International (India) Pvt. Ltd., Majeed Textiles Dyeing & Printing Mills Pvt. Ltd., and Sree Ayanar Spinning & Weaving Mills Ltd.This industrial experience provides him with practical knowledge of textile manufacturing, apparel production, management and industry operations, which he brings into his academic teaching and professional interactions.
As an academic, Dr. Sait handles a broad range of subjects covering both the technical and managerial dimensions of fashion and apparel education. His teaching areas include Sewn Products Machineries & Equipment, Smart Textiles, Technical Textiles, Spreading & Cutting of Apparel Products, Entrepreneurship Management, Human Resource Management, Fabric Science I, II & III, Ergonomics, EXIM Procedures & Documentation for Apparel Exports, and Sourcing & Costing of Apparel Products.

His research and publication record includes an empirical study on consumers’ psychographic interests and buying preferences for fashion garments, published in NeuroQuantology in September 2022. He also publishes a study on consumer attitude towards traditional apparels in Chennai City in NeuroQuantology in October 2022. These studies demonstrate his academic interest in consumer behaviour and fashion-product preferences.
His publications also address wider issues affecting the textile and apparel sector. His work on “Covid-19 Economic Implication: Desolated Livelihood in Cosmos Owing to Covid-19 Pandemic” examines the economic implications associated with the pandemic and its effect on livelihoods. He also publishes work on “Composites From Natural Fibres,” reflecting his academic interest in textile materials and natural-fibre-based technologies.
