Dr. Panchami is an Associate Professor in the Fashion Design Department at NIFT Gandhinagar, with a professional association with the institute since 1995, beginning as a student and progressing into academia. Her areas of expertise include skill upgradation and product development through handmade, hand-embroidered, and sustainable practices. She has contributed to diverse projects involving hand embroidery, weaving, printing and dyeing, uniform development, and skill enhancement training for ITI teachers. Her technical interests include Pattern Making, Garment Construction, Draping, and Value Addition in Fashion. A recipient of an award for her Design Collection in 1998, she is passionate about exploring the synergy between nature, technology, craftsmanship, and contemporary fashion. She enjoys learning, experimenting, and sharing technical knowledge to empower learners and artisans through innovative and sustainable design practices. Dr. Mistry’s profile can be strengthened by emphasising her interest in design-led projects that bring creativity and technical skills together, along with her aspiration to collaborate with students and design studios on distinctive, experimental outcomes. For example, her interest in projects such as World of WearableArt (WOW), New Zealand 2014 reflects her enthusiasm for innovative, one-of-a-kind fashion and product development. Dr. Mistry has successfully held several key academic and administrative positions at NIFT Gandhinagar, including RIC, CC-FD, SDAC, and DVO, contributing effectively to academic coordination, student development, institutional activities, and various administrative responsibilities. She received her PhD in Design from Atlantic International University, USA, in 2023. Her doctoral research, titled “Evolution of Bharwad Women’s Clothing of the Ahmedabad Region and Its Contemporary Adaptation as per the Preferences of Indian Gen-Z Women,” explores the evolution of traditional Bharwad women’s attire and its potential contemporary adaptation in response to the changing preferences of India’s Gen-Z population.
