Bengaluru CampusDr. R. Rashmi Munshi is an Associate Professor at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bengaluru, with over twenty-one years of teaching and practice. She specialises in Design Thinking & Management, User Experience Design, Design Semiotics, Trend Research and Forecasting, AI applications in design, and Qualitative and Ethnographic research. She holds a PhD in Design from NIFT, awarded in 2019, and a Master of Design from NIFT, New Delhi, completed in 2001.
Her research centres on Indian craft systems and sustainable innovation, and emerging technologies in design pedagogy. Her doctoral work examined the woodturning and lac-ware traditions of Channapatna, and she has published on sustainable manufacturing within Industry 4.0 contexts, digital resilience among handicraft artisans, and second-life fashion consumption. She lead an Exim Bank–funded project on export-oriented design and artisan training for the Channapatna cluster. Earlier work includes a UX framework study for Bosch, a diagnostic study of languishing crafts of Odisha to inform national craft policy, and trend research for Flipkart and Udaan.
She mentors postgraduate design projects and has led vocational training for artisan clusters and women entrepreneurs. She welcomes international collaborations and research-led consultancy. Outside academia, she is a keen reader, traveller, and language enthusiast
