Dr. Swati Sharma is an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kangra. She specializes in technical textiles, sustainable materials, polymer composites, and biocomposites. She received her Ph.D. in Textile Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, where her research focused on green composites based on ramie fabrics and polylactic acid (PLA). She teaches textile and material-related courses and actively engages in interdisciplinary research at the interface of textile engineering and sustainable material development.
Her research interests include biodegradable polymers, natural fibres, nanocomposites, technical textiles, sustainable packaging materials, and Himalayan textile resources. She has published in leading international journals, including Journal of Materials Science, Composites Part B: Engineering, and International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, and has authored book chapters published by Wiley. Her recent work also focuses on documenting and promoting the traditional Pulla craft of Himachal Pradesh. She received the Best Paper Award for her master's research.
Dr. Sharma serves as a reviewer for several international journals, including the Journal of The Textile Institute, Journal of The Institution of Engineers (India): Textile Engineering Series, Polymer Bulletin, and journals published by Bentham Science. She is committed to mentoring students, promoting sustainable textile innovation, and preserving Himalayan textile heritage through research and community engagement.
