Jahnavi Gummapu is an Assistant Professor in the Fashion Design Department at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Srinagar. Her areas of expertise include fashion design, textile design, surface ornamentation, Indian crafts, craft-based design, and design education. She has professional experience in fashion curation, teaching, and design development. Her research interests focus on Indian crafts, traditional textile practices, craft communities, and the integration of traditional knowledge with contemporary design approaches. Her academic and design work explores craft documentation, design interventions, sustainability, and the development of contemporary products inspired by Indian craft traditions. She is particularly interested in exploring how design can contribute to the preservation, sustainability, and contemporary relevance of Indian crafts and artisan communities. Jahnavi is interested in nature, sustainable living, gardening, painting, and material exploration. She actively engages in teaching, student mentoring, design research, and hands-on textile and craft activities. Through her academic practice, she encourages students to explore traditional crafts, sustainable practices, material experimentation, and socially responsible design.
