Assistant Professor, Fashion Management Studies (MFM)
Lipi Singh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Management Studies at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Raebareli, where she currently serves as the Centre Coordinator. She specializes in Retail Merchandising, Fashion Marketing, Retail Management, Omni-Channel Management, E-Commerce Management, Craft Cluster Studies, Consumer Behaviour, Entrepreneurship, Visual Merchandising, History of Costumes (Indian & Global), Design Basics & Fundamentals, Design Development, and Design & Society. With over 10.5 years of professional experience in the retail industry, she has held diverse roles as a Fashion Designer (Women’s Wear and Kids’ Wear), Category Manager – Apparels, Merchandise Manager, Retail Business Development Manager, and Design & Merchandising Manager before transitioning into academia. She joined NIFT in October 2021 and integrates industry expertise with academic learning to prepare future fashion management professionals.
Her research interests include craft cluster development, sustainable fashion, retail innovation, consumer behavior, entrepreneurship, and value chain analysis. She actively explores the intersection of traditional crafts and contemporary business practices to promote sustainable livelihoods and business growth. She published “A Comprehensive Analysis of Value Chain Integration in the Varanasi Handloom Cluster (Silk Sarees), Uttar Pradesh” in the International Journal of Research and Innovation in Applied Sciences and “Crafting Resilience: The Challenges and Revival of Gulabi Meenakari, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh” in the International Journal of Creative Research Thoughts (IJCRT) in 2025.
She completed her Master of Fashion Management from NIFT Kolkata (2013–15) and her Post Graduation in Fashion Design: Apparel & Textiles from SOFT, Pune (2005–08). From 2020 to 2023, she served as an empanelled Designer with the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Government of India. She mentors students through academic projects, internships, and industry collaborations while promoting experiential learning.
