Ms. Meaidibahun Blah is an Assistant Professor in the Fashion Communication Department at NIFT Shillong, and additionally serves as the Coordinator of the Corporate Communication Cell for NIFT Shillong. Specialising in Fashion Design and Visual Communication, her expertise covers design development, pattern making, draping, creative art direction, branding, and graphic design. She played a foundational role at the institute, helping establish the Fashion Design department in 2008 and the Fashion Communication department in 2020. She also served one term as a Campus coordinator for the Department of Fashion communication and two terms as Student Development Activity Coordinator, for NIFT Shillong. Her research interest revolves around documenting the historical evolution and structural forms of Traditional Khasi Costumes, to safeguard vanishing techniques and preserve material heritage of the Indigenous Khasi community. She works towards integrating traditional knowledge systems with contemporary fashion practices to strengthen regional craft economies. Her past field initiatives include coordinating a dressmaking entrepreneurship program for 60 trainees in 2012 and leading an Eri silk weaving skill upgradation project for local weavers at Umden village of Ri-Bhoi District of Meghalaya, in 2015. Ms. Blah adopts an experiential approach to teaching, integrating live industry projects into courses such as Design Methodology, Design Strategy and Systems Thinking, Trend Spotting & Research, Fashion Forecasting, and Fashion Styling. Her work is anchored in visual culture, storytelling, and sustained engagement with craft-led narratives.
