Assistant Professor, Fashion Communication (BDes)
Patna CampusMohammad Shadab Sami is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Communication at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Patna, with academic and professional interests spanning fashion communication, visual communication, photography, media, digital culture, and contemporary creative practices. He is actively involved in teaching, academic planning, curriculum delivery, student mentoring, and institutional activities. Alongside his academic responsibilities, he also holds the additional charge of Joint Director at NIFT Patna, contributing to the academic and administrative functioning of the Institute. He is currently pursuing his PhD at NIFT, has completed Research Progress Seminar (RPS) I and RPS II, and is working towards completing his doctoral research in the coming year.
His research interests focus on fashion photography, visual storytelling, social media, youth culture, influencer communication, digital journalism, and contemporary fashion imagery. His doctoral research examines Fashion Photography in the Age of Social Media and Youth Engagement, with a particular focus on Nick Knight's visual storytelling and its cultural impact on contemporary audiences.
He has published research papers on “Contemporary Fashion Photography and its Impact on Youth: Case Study of Nick Knight,” “Social Media Journalism in India: Its Impact on Youth and Generation Z,” and “Redefining Celebrity and Advertising through Influencer Marketing: A Study of Gen Z Consumer Engagement on Social Media.” He is currently working on additional research publications for submission to Scopus-indexed journals.
He has also undertaken professional and academic exposure through a faculty Industry attachment at Optimystix Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, and participates in faculty development programmes and industry-academia initiatives that strengthen the integration of professional practice with fashion communication education. His professional experience includes associations with leading Indian production houses and media organisations such as UTV, Balaji Telefilms, Yash Raj Films, Fremantle Media, Colosceum (Network18), Keylight, and Miditech. His professional exposure includes work associated with prominent television productions and programmes such as Mahabharata, Kayamath, Kasturi, Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil, Savdhan India, Kaun Banega Crorepati, India's Got Talent, Dance India Dance, Femina Miss India, and Indian Idol.
His academic interests also extend to integrating AI and emerging technologies into creative and fashion communication pedagogy. Through his combined engagement in teaching, research, mentoring, industry interactions, and institutional responsibilities, he helps create a practice-oriented, contemporary learning environment for students in Fashion Communication.
