Abhilash Balan P is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Communication at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kannur. Presently He is Joint Director In Charge a With over 25 years of teaching experience, including 17 years at NIFT, he specializes in Fashion and Product Photography, Interface and Experience Design (UI/UX), Media and Communication, and Design Research. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Kannur University. His teaching and academic practice integrate visual communication, digital design, and creative problem-solving, with a focus on developing industry-relevant skills among design students.

His research interests include design research, visual communication, user experience design, fashion imaging, and creative pedagogy. He has contributed to academic research through publications, conference presentations, curriculum development, and interdisciplinary design initiatives. He actively engages in institutional projects, academic collaborations, and industry-oriented programmes that promote innovation in design education and strengthen the integration of technology with creative practice.

Beyond his academic responsibilities, Abhilash Balan P mentors undergraduate and postgraduate students, contributes to academic administration, and participates in faculty development, outreach, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. He is committed to fostering collaborative learning environments and encouraging design thinking through experiential and practice-based education. His professional interests include photography, digital media, emerging technologies in design, and the application of visual storytelling across diverse communication platforms.
