Abhishek Bajaj serves as an Assistant Professor in the Knitwear Design Department at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai. With a core objective of bridging the gap between traditional techniques and cutting-edge technology, he empowers students to push the boundaries of textile and knitwear design. His primary domain expertise encompasses flat knitting, computerized and circular knitting technologies, fabric objective measurement, quality assurance for knits, and performance fabrics. He brings extensive academic and industry experience to his role, currently pursuing a PhD at Shri JJT University. He previously earned a Master of Business Administration, from Jaipur National university and a Bachelor of Technology in Textile Technology from The Technological Institute of Textile & Sciences.
A dedicated academician, he actively contributes to the field through comprehensive curriculum development for subjects ranging from knit fabric studies to advanced knitting. He previously held pivotal leadership roles, including Centre Coordinator for the Knitwear Design Department at both NIFT Mumbai (2020–2024) and NIFT Kannur (2015). His notable collaborative projects include partnering with the Central Silk Board on the Maheshwar Silk and Bagh Printing initiatives to develop exclusive collections of sarees and lifestyle accessories, as well as designing uniforms for government schools of Daman & Diu. In 2017, he coordinated the Project Soft Intervention Program for Vasumati Power-loom development. His technical proficiency earned him special appreciation from the Dean of NIFT for his advanced utilization of the Shima Seiki computerized flat knitting machine. Furthermore, he shared his expertise by conducting a specialized session on knitting technology for the ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology.
Beyond his core instructional duties, he demonstrates a profound commitment to student mentorship, consistently guiding emerging designers through industry internships, graduation projects, and final design collections. He maintains active involvement in community engagement and institutional development, currently leading the continuing education program for Creative fashion styling. His past outreach and administrative contributions include serving as a Student Development Activity Coordinator (SDAC), Nodal Officer for admissions, Purchase Officer, and advisor for the NIFT Mumbai Sports Club. He organized numerous exhibitions, Fashion shows, and extracurricular events, including annual cricket tournaments, across various institutions. Outside the academic sphere, he is a multifaceted creative professional whose personal interests encompass playing the guitar and composing music.
