Debasish Mondal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion and Lifestyle Accessory at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). He specializes in Industrial Design with expertise in ceramics, glass, product design, architecture, and fine arts. He has over five years of academic and industry experience and has been associated with NIFT since 2022. He received his Master of Design in Industrial Design (Ceramics and Glass Design) from the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Government College of Fine Arts, Chennai, University of Madras, and a Diploma in Architecture. He is currently pursuing a PhD at Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan.

His research interests include product design, socio-economic studies of craft, new product development, material innovation, design research, Design Thinking, and research methodologies for designers. His doctoral research focuses on product diversification through design intervention in the scientific glass industry.

Before joining NIFT, he worked with an elementary school system, where he developed curricula integrating Design Thinking into education. He is passionate about mentoring students, fostering innovation, and promoting design-led approaches to sustainable development and craft-based industries.
