Assistant Professor, Design Space (MDes)
Gandhinagar CampusProf. Gaurav Sharma is an Assistant Professor in the Master of Design Department at NIFT Gandhinagar and serves as Nodal Officer for Admissions. He has extensive experience of more than 23 years in design education, academic administration, research, consultancy, and craft-based project development. His expertise includes Strategic Design Management, User Experience Design, Design Thinking, Innovation in Design, Information Design, Product Design, Jewellery Design, and Lifestyle Accessory Design. He teaches at the PG and UG levels and mentors interdisciplinary projects that connect design strategy, technology, and traditional craft practices.
His research interests include strategic design, user experience, innovation, and accessory design, ceramics, terracotta, and the development of craft clusters. He has presented research at national and international forums and has contributed to studies on traditional crafts, material exploration, and contemporary design applications. He received the Faculty Initiative Award for Research at the IFFTI Conference 2018 in Shanghai . He has also worked on design development, curriculum planning, and technology upgradation initiatives with academic and industry partners. He additionally holds about 14 patents, reflecting his continued focus on innovation-led design practice.
Beyond teaching and research, Prof. Sharma worked on prestigious G20 projects, KVIC khadi events, and Ahmedabad Fashion Week initiatives to name a few as part of NIFT’s institutional work. He also leads workshops, mentors students, supports craft communities, and participates in professional and community engagement activities that strengthen design learning, outreach, and public impact.
