Ramakrishna Kongalla is an Assistant Professor in the Knitwear Design Department at the NIFT, Hyderabad. His areas of specialization include textile design and visual communication, with expertise in surface design, print design, automotive textiles, craft research, and craft-based design, Indian Textile heritage, integrated design project. Prior to joining NIFT, he worked as a Textile Designer in the automotive textiles industry and subsequently as a Visual Designer and User Interface Researcher. He has also contributed to design education as a guest faculty member at various design institutions, bringing interdisciplinary professional experience into his teaching and academic practice.

His research interests focus on design education, craft and textile traditions, colour, visual culture, and collaborative ecosystems connecting academia, industry, and government. His academic interests include the role of colour in Indian craft traditions and visual culture, design inclusivity, collaborative models in design education, and the cultural significance of traditional artefacts and practices.

In addition to teaching and research, he actively contributes to student development, mentoring, academic outreach, craft documentation, exhibitions, workshops, and institutional initiatives. He supports students through academic guidance, project reviews, extracurricular activities, and opportunities for professional exposure. His professional interests also extend to photography and printmaking, which inform and complement his creative and pedagogical practice.
