Mr. Sandeep Chandrakant Kidile is an Associate Professor in the Department of Textile Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Mumbai, India. With extensive experience in textile design education, research, and craft development, his work is dedicated to promoting sustainable practices through the integration of traditional knowledge and contemporary design approaches.
His primary research interests include indigenous materials and crafts, innovative product development, natural dyeing, sustainable textiles, and design interventions for traditional craft clusters. He is particularly engaged in the documentation, revival, and value addition of India's rich craft heritage by exploring new product applications that enhance the livelihood opportunities of artisan communities while preserving cultural identity.
Mr. Kidile has actively contributed to the advancement of textile and craft research through publications in national and international journals, presentations at academic conferences, and participation in interdisciplinary research initiatives. He has been associated with several funded projects focusing on craft documentation, product diversification, design innovation, and capacity building for traditional weaving and handicraft clusters across India. His collaborative work with academic institutions, government agencies, and artisan communities aims to strengthen sustainable design ecosystems and promote socially responsible innovation.
His current research explores the application of indigenous textile materials, regenerative design approaches, and sustainable composite materials for contemporary product and packaging applications, contributing to the broader discourse on circular economy and craft-based innovation.
