Vinesh Datta Tapre is a faculty in the Department of Fashion Communication, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Mumbai. He has nearly two decades of experience in design education and creative practice. His work is focused on visual arts, design pedagogy, material research and trans-disciplinary education. He has done Master of Fine Art in Mural Design from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai and teaches subjects like design principles,design research , visual merchandising, exhibition design and craft studies. His pedagogy encourages students to think critically about design, making strong connections between classical knowledge frameworks and contemporary creative methodologies.

He is a scholar of material culture, visual heritage, craft innovation and experiential design. He is interested in how traditional creative processes can inform contemporary design practices, drawing on his background in mural and design work. He has worked on projects around craft advocacy, exhibition production and design strategies with organisations from the cultural and development sector. His academic and professional work is marked by a sustained commitment to the integration of tradition, sustainability and innovation in design education and practice.

Besides his teaching and research he has an active artistic practice and regularly exhibits his work in painting shows. He is keenly interested in the creative and architectural heritage of Mumbai and studies the city’s past murals and public art traditions. He mentors, involves community and creatively interacts to promote the preservation of culture, ethical design and a deep reverence for India’s artistic legacy amongst emerging designers and creative professionals.
