Bingi Varsha Akshara is an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and a multidisciplinary designer and educator with expertise across apparel, fashion, accessory, jewellery, craft, and product design. With academic training in Accessory Design from NIFT Hyderabad and Apparel Design from the National Institute of Design (NID), she brings a multidisciplinary perspective to design education. Her teaching spans Fashion and Trend Forecasting, Jewellery Design, Craft-Based Design, Design Process, Design Fundamentals, Form and Aesthetics, Material Studies, Product Design, Packaging Design, and interdisciplinary design exploration.

Her research interests focus on the convergence of traditional craftsmanship with research-driven innovation, craft diversification, material exploration, sustainability, and design pedagogy. She actively engages with Indian craft clusters and explores ways of translating traditional knowledge, skills, materials, and making processes into contemporary design applications. Her academic practice emphasizes connecting craft knowledge with design education, experimentation, innovation, and evolving market contexts.

Her professional interests extend across fashion, jewellery, crafts, materials, products, and visual design. Drawing from experience in academia, industry, and artisan-based projects, she promotes experiential learning, conceptual thinking, material experimentation, and culturally sensitive design approaches, encouraging students to connect research, aesthetics, functionality, craftsmanship, and contemporary perspectives in their design practice and creative practice.
