Assistant Professor, Fashion Design (BDes)
Divya K V is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Chennai, and serves as the Cluster Initiative Coordinator. Her areas of teaching and research include Fashion Illustration, Draping, Fundamentals of Design, Trend Analysis, Costume, and Fashion Design. She holds a B.Des. in Fashion Design from NIFT Chennai, an MBA in Marketing Management and an M.Sc. in Costume and Fashion Design from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, and a Professional Certificate Programme in Design Thinking and Innovation Management from IIM Kozhikode. She brings over 11 years of professional experience in fashion retail and six years of academic experience.
Her academic interests focus on design education, design thinking, fashion illustration, draping, trend analysis, costume, and integrating industry practices with contemporary fashion pedagogy. As Cluster Initiative Coordinator, she coordinates craft-based projects, field visits, artisan engagement, documentation, workshops, and experiential learning initiatives under the Craft Cluster Initiative. She previously served as Controller of Examination, Nodal Officer, and IQAC Coordinator at the Kerala State Institute of Design, Kollam, and as a Board of Studies member at Kerala Technical University. She also undertook consultancy projects for the Government of Kerala.
She actively engages in student mentoring, outreach, academic coordination, and community initiatives. She is passionate about exploring design as a practitioner, researcher, and educator, with interests in crafts, sustainability, creativity, innovation, and culturally relevant fashion education.
