Mrs. Habeebunissa is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Knitwear Design at NIFT Chennai, with 23 years of academic experience, including 16 years at NIFT. She holds an M.Sc. and M.Phil. in Textiles and Clothing. Her expertise includes knitwear design, natural dyeing, eco-printing, textile processing, research methodology, quality assurance and functional textiles. She also served as Co-coordinator of a design consultancy project for Rope Enterprises, involving the design and sampling of the Kambl brand’s inaugural range using Gongadi, an indigenous textile of the Deccan region.

Currently, she is pursuing doctoral research that focuses on sustainable textiles, natural dyes and UV-protective knit clothing. She has published various research papers, reviews and a book chapter and has presented at different national and international conferences. She received third place in the Best Paper Award category in 2023 and the Overall Best Paper Award in 2026.

She mentors students in research, academic writing, publication and conference presentation, including at institutions such as IIT Delhi, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida etc.. She is committed to promoting sustainable textile practices, research-oriented learning and innovative functional clothing.
