LinkedIn Profile

Ms. Sowndarya M is an Assistant Professor in the Fashion Management Studies Department at NIFT, where she teaches across the merchandising and buying spectrum – from luxury fashion business and advanced planning to global sourcing and visual merchandising. With a Master's in Fashion Management and five years of industry experience at global and domestic brands, she brings a rare practitioner's lens to the classroom.

Her professional interests span assortment planning, brand development, cost optimization, and children's safety regulations in apparel. She draws on her time at H&M – where she rose from Management Trainee to Merchandiser – and her role as Category Head at VNH, where she developed in-house brands, to ground her teaching in real-world supply chain challenges. She has contributed to sustainability-focused industry projects, including the Cradle to Cradle and Farm Uptake initiatives, and has trained in fact-based costing for global benchmarking. She also serves as the ESSE Club Advisor, guiding student-led engagement.

Beyond the classroom, she mentors students on retail planning projects, facilitates workshops with industry partners, and stays engaged with emerging trends in sustainable sourcing. She is deeply committed to making fashion management education more practical, current, and industry-responsive.
