Ms. Sumita Agrawal is an academic, researcher and textile design professional with a specialization in textile trends, computer-aided textile design and Indian crafts. She has been associated with NIFT since 2010, bringing together her academic background in textile design and economics with a sustained interest in design research and education.
Her research explores consumer behaviour and emerging trends in fashion and home textiles, with a particular interest in how changing lifestyles, cultural contexts and notions of value influence consumer choices. Her work also engages with sustainable craft practices and the evolving relationship between traditional textile knowledge, contemporary design and changing markets.
As an educator, she has been actively involved in curriculum development, design pedagogy, exploratory research and industry-oriented academic projects. She mentors undergraduate students in textile design, guiding them in design development, research and the exploration of new ideas and processes.
Alongside teaching and research, she contributes to institutional initiatives, academic committees and industry outreach. Her work reflects a continuing interest in connecting textile heritage, contemporary design practice, consumer insights and emerging directions in design education.
