Dr. Sunitha Vasan is a Professor in the Knitwear Design Department. She has a wide experience in the Knitwear Industry and had joined at Chennai at the inception of the Department in 2000. She is a GMT Alumni of NIFT,Chennai which was being further upgraded to MFTech. She has completed her Doctoral Degree in Textile Management and also has a MBA Degree.

An amalgamation of Experience in Design Department along with Technology and Management Learning, she is able to contribute to all the disciplines in NIFT. Her area of expertise includes Garment Development in Woven and Knitwear for Men, Women & Kids, Production Planning, Draping for Fashion Garments, Design Development in Unisex, Lingerie,Intimate Apparel, Sportswear, Research Methodology, Fashion Marketing and Merchandising. Further her area of research includes Special/ Functional Garments, Inclusive and Adaptive Clothing, Technical Textiles, TR Cutting, Anthropometry

She has been holding various academic and administrative posts all these years. During her tenure as the Chairperson of Knitwear Design Department, she had spearheaded the New Curriculum in 2018. At present she is the Chief Operating Officer of Athleisure Incubator at Chennai. She has authored a book ‘The rationale of Unisex Clothing in 2023 and has quite a number of publications in national and international journals to her credit. She has coordinated several Training Programmes for Faculty, Industry Personnels and some MDPs.
