Dr. Beeraka Chalapathi is an Associate Professor (Technical) in the Accessory Design Department at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Chennai, where he has been a dedicated faculty member since 2005. A proven academic leader, he also serves as the Campus Academic Coordinator for NIFT Chennai, a role he assumed in 2024.

Dr. Beeraka Chalapathi possesses a robust academic and professional foundation, holding an MBA from Madras University and pursued a Ph.D. in "Consumer Behaviour in Sustainable Fashion" from Vels University. His specialized training includes Leather Goods Manufacturing and Leather Garment Pattern Designing from the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), as well as a program in Fashion Clothing Technology from NIFT. With over 10 years of valuable industry experience and 21 years in academia, he bridges the gap between commercial practice and design education. His areas of expertise encompass advanced pattern making and construction techniques for bags and leather accessories, packaging design, and form & space concept.

Deeply committed to social impact and community development, Dr. Beeraka Chalapathi has spearheaded several high-profile skill-training and rehabilitation projects. Notably, he led a Sea Shell Craft training initiative for 500 Self-Help Group (SHG) women in the Ramanathapuram district. He also directed vital training programs in leather bag construction and talipot fibre crafts for SHG women under the Tsunami Rehabilitation Scheme, empowering local communities through sustainable craft livelihoods.

Outside of his academic and research endeavours, Dr. Chalapathi enjoys playing badminton and listening to Tamil literature speeches.
