Mr. Muhilvannan N is an Associate Professor in the Department of Fashion Technology at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Chennai. He has over two decades of professional and academic experience spanning apparel manufacturing, industrial engineering, production planning, and fashion technology education. His areas of expertise include apparel production planning and control, garment manufacturing, industrial engineering, production and operations management, apparel costing, management information systems, apparel ERP, and sewn products machinery and equipment. Before joining academia, he held progressive industrial engineering and managerial positions in the apparel manufacturing industry, bringing valuable industry experience into teaching and academic administration.

His academic and professional interests focus on garment manufacturing systems, apparel production management, industrial engineering, process optimization, production planning, and workforce development in the apparel sector. At NIFT, he actively contributes to teaching, curriculum delivery, and academic administration. As Centre Coordinator of the Department of Fashion Technology, he oversees departmental academic activities, including faculty workload allocation, timetable planning, class coordination, and performance monitoring. He also contributes to skill development initiatives by actively participating in sewing operator training programmes implemented through Central and State Government schemes, strengthening industry-oriented capacity building in the apparel sector.

Mr. Muhilvannan is committed to student mentoring and practice-oriented learning by integrating industry experience with classroom teaching. He believes in developing competent professionals equipped with technical knowledge and practical skills to meet the evolving needs of the fashion and apparel industry. He is proficient in English and Tamil and has working knowledge of Hindi and Kannada, enabling him to engage effectively with students, industry professionals, and diverse stakeholder groups across India.
