Labakorcy War is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Textile Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong. She is a design educator and apparel designer with an interdisciplinary academic background that combines engineering and fashion design. She holds a Master of Design (M.Des.) in Apparel Design from the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, and a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Electrical Engineering from Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology. With expertise in design thinking, product development, and creative problem-solving, Ms. War brings valuable industry and academic experience to her teaching. Prior to joining academia, she worked with renowned fashion designers and completed professional internships at leading organizations, including Madura Fashion & Lifestyle and MINC Design Studio, Bengaluru, where she gained practical experience in apparel design, trend forecasting, and product development. Her academic and professional engagements include collaborative projects with Heriot-Watt University, Scotland, Kalaraksha Vidyalaya, and Birla Cellulose, enabling her to explore global design practices, sustainable textile innovations, and the rich heritage of Indian craft traditions. She was recognized as a Top 15 Finalist in the prestigious Max Fashion–ELLE Design Awards and participated in an international academic exchange programme in the United Kingdom. She has also presented research papers at several state- and national-level conferences, contributing to scholarly discourse in the fields of design and textiles. Ms. War is passionate about nurturing creativity, innovation, and critical thinking among aspiring designers. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and industry relevance. She is committed to fostering a learning environment that promotes sustainability, creative exploration, and design excellence, preparing students to meet the evolving demands of the global fashion and textile industry.
