Dr. Unsanhame Mawkhlieng is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Textile Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong. With over eleven years of academic, research, and industry experience, his expertise spans textile fibres and polymers, yarn and fabric manufacturing, textile quality assurance, textile processing, protective textiles, and nanomaterials. He teaches courses including Fibre to Fabric, Textile Processing, Weaving Design, Innovation in Textiles, Geometry, and textile-related Computer-Aided Design (CAD). He earned his Ph.D. in Textile Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi in 2021.

Dr. Mawkhlieng's research focuses on protective textiles, advanced textile materials, textile composites, and functional nanomaterials. He has authored 17 research publications and several book chapters, and holds two patents, including a Dynamic Yarn Pull-Out Tester and a Ripstop Weave for Enhanced Tearing Strength and Breathability. He is currently associated with a Department of Commerce, Government of Meghalaya-funded project on executive courses for value addition in textiles, handloom, and garment construction. His research contributions have been recognised with the Young Engineer's Award (Textile Division, 2023), the SRISTI GYTI Award (2021), and the INNOTEX Award (2021).

Beyond teaching and research, Dr. Mawkhlieng serves as the Campus Coordinator for the Department of Textile Design at NIFT Shillong and actively contributes to departmental academic activities. Outside academia, he enjoys playing chess and Scrabble, solving puzzles, and listening to music.
