About

Dr. T. Moasunep Jamir is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion & Lifestyle Accessories (F&LA) at NIFT, Shillong. He brings a strong research foundation in mechanical engineering and product design, developed through teaching and research appointments across institutions in India and abroad, and is known for his rigorous, research-driven approach to design education.

Dr. Jamir's teaching and research interests centers on product design, advanced manufacturing, system design and digital modeling, with a focus on 3D printing, smart materials and prototyping. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Design) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, where his doctoral research focused on foil bearing systems design, examining material behavior and stability under varying structural models. He continues to pursue technical publications and design-focused research projects, with a particular interest in bridging engineering rigor with applied design pedagogy.

Dr. Jamir began his academic career at Delhi Technological University in 2014, and later served on the faculty of Debre Berhan University, Ethiopia, under a UNDP-funded initiative, from 2016 to 2021. This international teaching experience continues to inform his cross-cultural approach to design education and he remains actively engaged in research projects, paper presentation and academic publications.

Completed PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Machine Design) from IIT Guwahati in 2016. Thesis title: "Gas Foil Bearing: Effect of Foil Materials and Stability Analysis Using Different Models for Foil Structure."
