Assistant Professor,Leather Design (BDes)
Dr. R. Vijayalakshmi serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Leather Design and currently holding the additional responsibility of Student Development Activity Coordinator at National Institute of Fashion Technology, Chennai. She specializes in 3D Apparel CAD, fashion digital sketching, leather craft techniques, garment pattern making, and construction with academic qualification of B.S., M.Sc., M.Phil., M.B.A., and a Ph.D. with NET.
She brings extensive professional and academic experience of 16 years with her research focuses on craft documentation, tribal art revival, and empowerment through textile embellishments. She has published in Scopus-indexed journals, including studies on Kurumba painting revitalization with funding from UGC Minor Research Project. She has presented internationally, with contributions at conferences in Spain, Vietnam, and India, addressing themes of cultural preservation, and digital design in fashion. Her work consistently integrates indigenous art into contemporary fashion, fostering both academic advancement and social impact.
Dr. Vijayalakshmi handled additional responsibility of being Cluster Initiative Coordinator from 2021 – 2024 and Sports Club Advisor. Her personal interests include embroidery, gardening, painting, and craft reflecting her passion for creativity and cultural heritage.
