Mr. S.A. Venkatasubramanian is a graduate of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Chennai, with a Bachelor’s degree completed in 2000. He also holds a Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Costume Design and Fashion and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Fashion Design.

With over seven years of industry experience, he has worked across diverse areas of design, merchandising and quality assurance. His professional journey reflects a strong combination of industry knowledge, academic expertise and a passion for design and innovation.

Driven by his commitment to design education, he joined NIFT Raebareli in 2008 as a faculty member in the Department of Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories. Over the years, he has been actively involved in several prestigious design and development projects in collaboration with government organisations and other institutions.
As Project Coordinator for projects with the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), he was involved in designing uniforms for various categories of personnel, including engineers, loco pilots, Customer Relations Officers, ticketing officers, and maintainers. These projects involved understanding functional requirements, workplace conditions, comfort, aesthetics, and the specific needs of different user groups.

He has also contributed to a prestigious project undertaken in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM). As part of this initiative, he designed the uniform for the Banking Correspondent Sakhi programme. The uniform design concept was presented to and approved by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath Ji.

Additionally, he has contributed to the implementation of the Khadi Project and served as the Project Implementation Coordinator for the USTTAD Project, focusing on the revival and development of traditional bone craft in Lucknow and Barabanki. As part of this initiative, he conducted four workshops, with approximately 15 artisans participating in each workshop, in collaboration with master craftsmen. The workshops focused on strengthening traditional craftsmanship, exploring new product possibilities, and encouraging product diversification to help revive and sustain the craft.

His areas of creative interest and professional expertise include home décor, fashion accessories, product development, design processes, and craft-based design innovation. At NIFT Raebareli, he has taught a wide range of subjects across the Fashion & Lifestyle Accessories, BFTech, and Fashion Design programmes, including Design Process, Material Handling, Fashion Accessories, Fashion Basics, Garment Construction, History of Costume, and Home Décor Design.
